Terms & Conditions.

These terms apply to every car hired from Right Rides Car Hire Ltd, with or without a chauffeur. By booking with us you agree to them, so please read them carefully.

01Who can hire

  • Self-drive hirers must be at least 23 years old and hold a valid driving licence (held for at least 2 years).
  • To book online you must upload a clear photo of your original driving licence (both sides) and national ID or passport; with a chauffeur, only the ID or passport. We cannot take a booking without them.
  • You must show the same original driving licence and national ID or passport when you collect the car.
  • Only the drivers named in the booking may drive the car.
  • Every booking must include a next of kin we can contact if we cannot reach you, and the purpose of the hire.

02Purpose of hire

  • Every booking states the purpose of the hire (for example a family trip, business, a wedding, an airport transfer or a safari). The car may only be used for that purpose, and in the areas agreed with us.
  • We ask for the purpose to protect the car: a car used for anything unlawful can be stopped, impounded or towed by the police, confiscated by the authorities, or damaged or destroyed during a crime or a police operation.
  • If the car is used for a purpose other than the one stated, or for any unlawful purpose, the hirer pays all police, towing, impound, storage, legal and recovery costs, every day the car cannot be hired out, and the cost of repairing all damage.
  • If the car is confiscated, written off or destroyed because of such use, the hirer pays its full replacement value.
  • Tell us before you change your plans (a different destination, more drivers or another use), so we can confirm the change in writing.

03Lawful use only

  • The car may only be used for lawful purposes, and for the purpose of hire stated in the booking.
  • It must never be used for smuggling, or to carry contraband, stolen goods, unlicensed or untaxed goods, or goods hidden from customs or the Uganda Revenue Authority.
  • It must never be used to carry, buy, sell or deliver illegal drugs, firearms, ammunition or explosives, or protected wildlife and wildlife products (such as ivory, skins or bushmeat).
  • It must never be used for human trafficking, carrying people across borders illegally, kidnapping, robbery, burglary or any other crime, or to help someone escape the police.
  • It must never be used to carry fare-paying passengers as a taxi, special hire, boda-style or ride-hailing service, or to carry more passengers than it has seats.
  • It must never be used for racing, rallies, driving lessons, demonstrations, riots or unlawful gatherings, or in any way that breaks the Traffic and Road Safety Act.
  • It must not be sub-let, lent, sold, pledged or used as security for a loan.
  • If the car is used for any illegal purpose, the hire ends at once without refund, the hirer is fully responsible for all fines, seizures, losses and damage, and Right Rides will report the matter to the police and cooperate fully with any investigation.

04Looking after the car

  • Use the car carefully and only on roads suitable for it. No racing, towing, off-road driving (except our 4x4s on safari routes) or carrying goods for sale.
  • No smoking, and no driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Keep the car locked when parked and never leave the keys or documents inside it.
  • Do not take the car outside Uganda without our written permission.

05Mechanical problems and breakdowns

  • If a warning light comes on, the car makes an unusual noise, or you notice any mechanical problem, stop safely and call us immediately on +256 787 566408 or WhatsApp +46769257184.
  • Do not repair, service or take the car to any garage or mechanic without first speaking to us and getting our approval.
  • Repairs done without our approval will not be refunded, and any damage they cause is the hirer’s responsibility.
  • We will arrange help, a repair or a replacement car as quickly as possible.

06Accidents and damage

  • Report any accident, damage or theft to us and to the police straight away, and get a police report.
  • The hirer is responsible for any damage to the car during the hire, and must pay for the repairs.
  • Repairs are done at a garage approved by Right Rides. The hirer also pays for the time the car cannot be hired while it is being repaired.
  • Lost keys, documents or accessories are charged at their replacement cost.

07Fuel, prices and payment

  • Prices are per day (24 hours). Fuel is not included: return the car with the same fuel level it was given with, or we charge for the difference.
  • A chauffeur adds UGX 50,000 a day and up-country travel adds UGX 50,000 a day.
  • Payment is by MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money or cash, as agreed when we confirm your booking.
  • Returning the car late is charged as an extra day after a 2-hour grace period.

08Fines and the law

  • Traffic fines, parking fines and any other penalties during the hire are the hirer’s responsibility.
  • The hirer must follow the traffic laws of Uganda at all times.

09Ending the hire

  • Return the car on time, at the agreed place, in the same condition as you received it (apart from normal wear).
  • We may end a hire early, without refund, if these terms are broken or the car is put at risk.
